In a deeply unsettling incident that has sent shockwaves through Jadavpur University, an 18 year old fresher Named Swapnadip Kundu tragically lost his life following an alleged ragging incident. The primary suspect, Sourav Chowdhury, has been apprehended by authorities and is under police custody until August 22, 2023.
The victims father lodged a FIR, leading to the investigation of this harrowing incident. According to police sources, several suspects were present during the ragging episode that led to Kundu's untimely demise. In addition to Chowdhury, three more individuals have been identified and linked to the incident.
The initial details of the incident reveals that Kundu was subjected to humiliating rituals by his seniors. He was allegedly forced to cut his hair in a specific style and endure an uncomfortable "intro" session, during which he was required to provide personal physical details to his tormentors.
A heart wrenching twist to the story unfolded as a student from Kashmir reportedly witnessed the entire incident. This brave student attempted to prevent Kundu from taking drastic measures, even holding his hand to prevent him from jumping off a balcony. Tragically, these efforts were unsuccessful.
Further investigation has revealed a troubling backstory to Kundu's stay at the university hostel. It was revealed that Kundu initially did not have a room in the hostel. His father met Chowdhury, who offered Kundu a guest stay in the hostel for a fee of Rs1000. Starting from August 4, Kundu began residing in the hostel as a guest of another student named Monotosh. The extent to which the university authorities were aware of this arrangement are still unclear.
As the investigation continues, multiple students residing in the hostel have been summoned for questioning. So far, 12 individuals have been interrogated in connection with the case. Additionally, investigators have obtained call recordings that suggest a group of hostel residents, including Chowdhury, made inappropriate comments and gestures towards Kundu.
